How we ranked the cities

For cities in the Northern Hemisphere, summer means June through August; for cities in the Southern Hemisphere, it means December through February. We averaged the monthly mean daily highs across those three months using each city's 2015–2024 climate averages, the same ten-year historical summaries that power our city climate guides. This consistent seasonal definition makes the comparison meaningful across hemispheres.

These are long-term climate averages, not a forecast or a record of a single heatwave. Local elevation, geography, and the urban heat island effect all influence a city's temperatures. Visit a city climate guide for its full month-by-month context.
